Let's Be Real...

I have a problem... I wear something or try something on and for whatever reason can't seem to put things back where they belong. I just toss them on the floor only to let them pile up for weeks and then I have to get ready in the am in this mess! What the heck is wrong with me!?! It takes a good couple of hours to get back in proper condition and I always swear to myself I won't let it happen again...then I do.

See that suitcase...that's from my Lake Charles trip, lazy girl! Well last night I had it about up to you know where and for the millionth time this year alone picked up my closet. Now it just feels as though it's packed to the brim and I pulled a few pieces down to donate but it just feels messy to me. I have four square drawers built in and no dresser (the mister keeps his things in there) I I feel like my belts and scarves and nighties take up too much space!

What tips or ticks do you suggest? Do you take down your winter things in the spring, what do you keep in your drawers? Help!\

  1. I have the exact same problem, only I live on a 7ft wide boat so it's 10 times worse! Glad to hear I'm not the only one. I will be checking back to see if there are any good tips posted!

    Good luck!

  2. Girl, here are some things that I have found that help:

Organize your clothes by first grouping items together in different sections of your closet (like all the shirts together, pants together, skirts together, etc.). For your shirt group, sort by sleeve length then by color. In my closet, in the front is the spaghetti strap shirts, then tanks, short sleeve, 3/4 sleeve, then lastly long sleeves (I have plain old t-shirts in a group by themselves - if you mix them with the others, you can't really see what you have). As far as colors, I think I started with white, followed by cream, brown, yellow, orange, red, purple, green, blue, then black and grey. This way, if you are in a tank top mood, you know exactly where to look and don't have to search through a bunch of other clothes. Same if you are chilly and need a sweater - you know just where to go! Organize pants and skirts by length with the shortest in front.

I purchased some decorative photo boxes on sale at Hobby Lobby and am using those to hold things like belts, scarves, wallets, small purses, etc. These boxes are perfect for miscellaneous items that you can't seem to contain and they already have a label holder on the front of the box. Plus, they look super cute in the closet!

Hope that helps! It has surely helped me!

  3. I have the exact same problem, I'm especially bad at draping clothing over everything! I have a bunch of organizational stuff from Ikea, though, that helps a lot. I have a belt/sash organizer that is possibly the most valuable piece of organization I have and I utilize those accordian-style t-shirt holders that hang from your closet like crazy... I think I have like 4 of them :S
